July 2016 and August 2022
We have had the pleasure of visiting Scotland twice; once for our honeymoon in 2016 and again in 2022 with Dave’s colleagues. On both trips we majorly lucked out with the weather, with sunny days and limited rain. We don’t typically love city-based travel, but Edinburgh is far and away one of our favorite cities to visit. Everything is easily accessible walking or via the tram, and we particularly enjoyed exploring the closes off the Royal Mile. But as much as we love Edinburgh, nothing compares to the highlands and the isles.
Accommodations: Edinburgh has plenty of hotel and AirBnB options to chose from. In our 2016 visit, we stayed a little further away from the Royal Mile in a quieter area and could easily walk or take the tram to the city center. In 2022, we stayed right off the Royal Mile which was super convenient, but also very loud at all times being close to the bars and restaurants. In the Isle of Skye, our accommodations were arranged through a tour company, but we stayed at a B&B where the host kindly shared her homemade rhubarb gin. Fort William has a lot of quaint options that are walking distances to the town restaurants and the bank of Loch Ness.
