A quick Christmas stopover in Fiji didn’t go quite as planned with ongoing torrential rain and flooding on the island. Our plans for a day cruise to a private island for sun and snorkeling, as well as a dinner and kava ceremony at the local cultural village both got cancelled.

We were able to get massages at the resort, and they had a shuttle bus that took us around Denarau Island to visit the shops and restaurants. Otherwise, it was a lot of downtime playing board games and lounging indoors.

Accommodations:

• Radisson Blu Resort Denarau Island – the hotel itself was nice and the pools would be great in better weather. All of their activity reservations were on paper, which caused issues with them not having massage and dinner reservations we made in advance. Additionally, most of the activities the hotel offered were cancelled due to the rain but you got sent to three different places until you found someone who knew what was going on. I would maybe stay elsewhere if we were to come back to experience the island during a drier season.
