Botswana was the true gem of our African adventure. The food was great, the people were so lovely, and the animal encounters were unbelievable. For anyone interested in a safari vacation, I would highly recommend Botswana with visits to both Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta. We used Victoria Falls Serious Fun Tours and Travel for a budget-friendly custom safari itinerary.
Accommodations:
- During our three nights in Maun, we stayed at Cresta Riley’s Hotel. The hotel had everything we needed for our stay, and dinners at the pool bar hit the spot after long days out on safari.
- We only had one night in Kasane, but could have stayed forever at Chobe Safari Lodge. The hotel is beautiful and includes a nature trail, water’s edge bar, and wildlife free roaming the property. We particularly enjoyed watching monkeys and warthogs from our private balcony.
Tours and Activities:
- The Mokoro safari (traditional shallow water canoe) and walking safari in the Okavango Delta was such a unique and serene experience. Local guides paddled us through the delta, getting to see hippos and other wildlife along the way. The guides also took us on a walking safari where we saw wildebeest, antelope, a python, and more!
- Our game drive to the Moremi Game Reserve was a long (and bumpy) day but 100% worth it for the lack of crowds and the wildlife encounters. We got up close to elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras, and giraffes.
- In Kasane, we took a boat safari on the Chobe River where we saw crocodiles, hippos, buffalo, and swimming elephants. The highlight of the trip was the game drive through Chobe National Park, where we got to be right in the middle of herds of elephants making their way to the waterfront.
