Louisiana

2017 and 2019

We’ve visited New Orleans twice now, once for my birthday weekend and once with friends after a wedding in Mississippi. Both times were in July, it was terribly hot the first time and the second was in the middle of a hurricane. While it’s not my most favorite place in the world, I wouldn’t mind going again maybe in a cooler, dryer season.

Accommodations: The first trip, we stayed at the Sheraton New Orleans on Canal St. The second time we stayed at the Old No. 77 Hotel. Both were quite nice and walking distance to Bourbon St without being right in the thick of things.

Tours and Activities: We obviously did the standard touristy Bourbon Street things – got a hurricane a Pat O’Briens, did a Shark Attack at Tropical Isle, and ate beignets at Cafe Du Monde. But in addition, we did a cemetery tour, took the tram to the garden district, had dinner on the Natchez riverboat, and experienced a burlesque show. One of our favorite and more unexpected things was the National World War II Museum. It is really well done, and you could spend all day exploring the various exhibits.
