April 2024
Seeing a solar eclipse in totality brought us to St. Louis, Missouri for a long weekend getaway. Since it was so close to our anniversary, we combined it with our anniversary amusement park tradition and spent a day at the local Six Flags.
Accommodations: We used our Hyatt credit card points to stay at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch. It was walking distance to tons of restaurants and things to do, and our room had a great view of the arch!
Activities: We spent our first full day at Six Flags St. Louis. Being so early in the season, the crowds were not bad at all but inclement weather nearby kept the rides closed for a good bit of the day. That night we walked around the Ballpark Village area, which is really cool with all of the restaurants and outdoor space. We ate dinner at Katie’s Pizza and Pasta, and the food was excellent. Highly recommend the Lasagnotte – maybe one of my favorite pasta dishes I’ve had.
The second day was eclipse day! We got the last car (well pick-up truck) available downtown and drove out to Foundation Park in Centralia, Illinois. The park was massive and had a nice disk golf course that we played to kill some time waiting for the eclipse. The highlight of the day was obviously the eclipse. The whole experience of seeing it in totality was incredible and totally made the trip worth it.
On our last day, we had a bit of time before our flights so we adventured around the City Museum. This is one of the wildest, coolest museums I’ve ever been to with slides, tunnels, and interactive structures everywhere. Even though it’s geared towards kids, we spent several hours and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
